Google testing JUMBO checkout icons.
Desperate for money ? or desperate for checkout signups ? probably both.

This is what the checkout icon normally looks like (can you spot it?):

Cheers,

PS: Also notice the “California” line under the second ad on the right, I am guessing that indicates it is a California targeted ad (I am in California). Did they have that for some time or is it new? (does not seem to be a test).

It will be interesting to see how big the Yahoo-PayPal logo on search results becomes over time. My guess is not more than 15% smaller than Google’s, and probably the same size.
Comment by Keith Eysmun — February 14, 2007 @ 12:48 amI’ve seen the state under the ad for some time now. For me, it’s Massachusetts. I don’t think advertising that a site uses Google Checkout will influence my decision to shop or buy from a site. As long as checkout does it’s job and it’s secure, I’m all set.
Comment by Joan — February 15, 2007 @ 3:25 pmThe little grey icon that was there before was never going to catch anyones attention. They are trying to get the service off the ground. I expect the extra bling on the icon is just that, eye candy to catch your attention.

Comment by Alistair — February 15, 2007 @ 4:27 pmThe “California” line has been there for a couple of years.
With the recent push for checkout sign-ups, how long until G starts incorporating Checkout into their quality score?
Comment by Jordan Glasner — February 16, 2007 @ 7:30 amThey’ve had that targeted localized ad bit for a while, fyi.
That button is hideous though! lordy.

What is your take on possibility that Google will lose to Vista not only Desk Search but Web Search as well? This buil-in features are very convinient when the Quality of search is the same. I am using Yahoo for all my applications and using Yahoo search in the Search the Web window. Also I mentioned that Google Daily Reach is falling, Yahoo’s stable and MSN is Rising.
